Introduction to Photography
Semester long 9-12 | Student Work
This course focuses primarily on educating students how to compose a quality photograph while incorporating the elements of art and principles of photography. Students investigate American Art History throughout the course, and gain an understanding of how photography played a vital role in the development media and communication in America. Students learn how to analyze and critique both personal work and work done by classmates and fine art photographers. They keep a personal blog and digital portfolio, and utilize Pinterest as a method of capturing inspiration and knowledge about the field. Students work in both black and white and color photography, they explore camera functions such as using white balance, ISO, depth of field and fast and slow shutter speeds. In addition students learn how to further develop their work in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.
